On-Demand Health Workforce Readiness in Facing Global Outbreaks

In recent years, global outbreaks such as COVID-19 have shown how important on-demand healthcare workers are in maintaining the stability of the medical system. When healthcare facilities are covered, freelance medical workers and telemedicine services become a quick solution to meet patient needs. However, the readiness of on-demand healthcare workers still faces various challenges, including lack of emergency training, regulatory restrictions, and less than optimal digital infrastructure.
To improve the readiness of on-demand healthcare workers in facing global outbreaks, several steps need to be taken. First, digital-based training must be strengthened so that medical workers can quickly understand the protocols for handling outbreaks. The use of technology such as VR simulations and online courses can be an effective way to improve their skills without having to be in a specific physical location. Second, telemedicine infrastructure must be further improved to be able to handle a large number of patients with high efficiency. This includes increasing internet access in remote areas and developing a secure communication system between medical workers and patients. Third, flexible policies in the distribution of medical energy need to be implemented. Governments and healthcare institutions can develop a contract-based or part-time workforce system that allows on-demand doctors and nurses to be immediately deployed when a crisis occurs.
Improving the readiness of on-demand health workers is not only about efficiency in handling outbreaks, but also ensuring more equitable access to health services. With better training, adequate infrastructure, and supportive regulations, on-demand health workers can be at the forefront of facing future global health challenges.
