Community Health Workers and Telemedicine: Key Roles in Better Health Access

Telemedicine is one of the most important innovations in modern healthcare, and community health workers (TKM) play a key role in integrating it into the health system. In the context of telemedicine, TKM has an important role in facilitating better access, patient education, and promoting overall community health.

  1. Understanding of Technology: Public health professionals have in-depth knowledge of the populations and communities they serve. In the context of telemedicine, this understanding helps them understand the needs and challenges that patients may face in accessing health services through technology. They can also provide education to the public on how to use telemedicine platforms effectively.

  2. Integrating Telemedicine in Field Practice: TKM can integrate telemedicine services into their field practice. They can provide access to telemedicine services to communities that may be difficult to reach by conventional health services, such as those who live in remote areas or have limited mobility.

  3. Community Health Monitoring: Telemedicine allows TKM to carry out community health monitoring more efficiently. They can monitor patient conditions remotely and provide more proactive public health services, especially in outbreak or disaster situations.

  4. Health Education and Promotion: TKM can also use telemedicine for health education and promotion. They can conduct remote education sessions, health campaigns, and disease prevention programs through telemedicine platforms, reaching more people with relevant health messages.

  5. Connecting Patients to Specialists: In cases that require consultation with specialists, TKM can play the role of liaison between patients and medical professionals via telemedicine. They can ensure patients receive appropriate care without having to travel long distances.
